No Republican ever threatened the members of the Supreme Court to influence one of their decisions. Oh, they hinted and wished that things would go their way, but they never issued threats or refused to obey the law instituted by the court. Although, there had been calls for biased justices on the left to recuse themselves from some issues, for they had in total disregard of their supposed neutrality, made statements that were clearly biased.
However, now the country has reached new heights of ignoble behavior. Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader, has directly threatened the Supreme Court to vote the way “we” want, or else.
On the steps of the Supreme Court, Schumer pronounced, “I want to tell you Gorsuch. I want to tell you Kavanaugh. You have released a whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
What did Schumer mean by, “you won’t know what hit you?” Is he threatening to unleash the Antifa mob upon the justices and their hapless families? Is this his call for the radical left to become physically aggressive? Is it call for the mob to rise and riot? Is the threatening rhetoric of the past not enough? Now, the progressive left must act like the Fascists did with their opposition?
It started already last year, when five senators filed a brief to pack the Supreme court if it did not rule favorably for their side in second amendment case. Schumer’s thuggish behavior reminds me of the Communist threats I witnessed in my youth when a few brave souls raised opinions contrary to the regime. Are we there yet America? This unbelievable threat brought forth an immediate rebuke from chief Justice John Roberts. “Justices know that criticism comes with the territory,” he said. ”But threatening statements of this sort from the highest level of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous. All members of this court will continue to do their job without fear or favor, from whatever quarter.
Schumer’s remarks came in the middle of deliberations on a case that has nothing to do with the abortion issue, but safety for a mother receiving an abortion. A doctor performing an abortion should have medical privileges in a hospital nearby so that the mother’s life can be saved in
case of an emergency. What is wrong with that? I am a woman—I would insist on it.
Chuck Schumer did all of us favor with his remarks, for now he clearly stated the resolve of his party: You will believe and do what we want—or else.
Remember that voters! Tomorrow your thoughts and beliefs might clash with those of the Democratic elite and you and your family, too, will be threatened with violence.
