    Join SAMO Fund for our 1st Annual Native Milkweed Mania and Potluck! Families, individuals, and groups are welcome to hang out for 1-2 hours or anytime from 8 am to 12 noon on Thursday, July 27th, or Friday, July 28th.

    Activities Will Include:

    8 am to 12 noon: Sowing of Narrowleaf Milkweed seed for Fall restoration projects in the Santa Monica Mountains

    9:30 am: Mini Milkweed class covering the ins and outs of local monarchs and the local milkweed plants they love.

    10:30 am: Mini native landscape class covering early and late flowering plants perfect for attracting monarchs and pollinators to your garden.

    11:30 am: Tour of our native plant nursery, seed conservation program, and herbarium.

    All attendees can take home some Milkweed plants or seeds for themselves, along with a few bonus pollinator plants!

    – Potluck and Snacks!

    – Monarch and Milkweed-themed face painting for little and big kids!

    DETAILS:

    Volunteer hours begin at 8:00 am and go thru Noon. Arrive anytime between 8:00 am and Noon and stay for a minimum of 2 hours to receive free Milkweed plants/ seeds and a few bonus pollinator plants.

    This volunteer work will take place outdoors at the Rancho Sierra Vista Nursery. Much of the work can occur under shade, but volunteers should be prepared to stand for at least 1-2 hours and be exposed to the cold and sun for various lengths. Please wear hiking or outdoor working attire, bring water/reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and a sun hat.

    So that you know – an adult must accompany attendees under 18 unless prior arrangements have been made. All attendees under 18 must have a guardian sign volunteer paperwork at the time of arrival to participate (Questions? email – [email protected])

    Directions: Search Google Maps for ‘Car Park for Sycamore Canyon

    1. Park in the lower, final, bottom visitor parking lot (Car Park for Sycamore Canyon)

    2. Walk past the left side of the bathrooms, past the Eucalyptus grove.

    3. Walk into and past the horse stables and Rancho Sierra Vista Nursery.

    Total walking time averages less than 3 minutes. If you walk longer, you may be walking the wrong way! Feel free to call or text 805-844-7449 if you need help.

    From the Ventura Fwy (101) to Lynn Rd exit. South on Lynn Rd 5.25 miles to Via Goleta. Park entrance is on the left.
