About the Topic:
Much has been written in the blogosphere in recent months about Diana West’s controversial book American Betrayal and its conclusions that the U.S. Government was heavily penetrated by double agents whose loyalties lay with our country’s communist adversaries. In addressing the issue of the communist influence on U.S. policy, Ms. West is only the latest in a long line of historians and critics who have shone a klieg light on this very troubling period in our history, when liberal democratic government was at its lowest ebb and looked unlikely to survive. Taken together, the work of these historians provides a horrifying picture of what could have happened to this country several decades ago and now offers a warning for what might happen again today if we lose focus and lack vigilance.
