I’m conducting Flag Day 2014 (June 14, annually) on behalf of the Conejo Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11395 this year. It’ll be held on the North lawn of Thousand Oaks City Hall 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. Music will start at 9:30AM; ceremonies at 10AM concluding at about 11:30AM. Music provided by a 15 piece orchestra will consist of patriotic tunes including a Sing-A- Long of God Bless America.

This event is not a military celebration or political rally (even though it occurs just 10 days after this year’s Primary Election.) It has morphed from previous venues of those aspects. It will be  a community event celebrating AMERICANISM, Love of Our Country and Respect for Our Flag.

A brief keynote address by Mr. Terry Paulson and a Farewell to the Flags by Mr. Herb Gooch will highlight the event. Invocation by Mr. Denis Weber of Agoura Hills.

At the conclusion of our ceremonies we will consign old, worn, faded and dirty flags to their retirement by fire with Conejo Mountain Funeral Home in Camarillo. (US, Corporate, Organization, City and State flags too). For the ceremony they will occupy a place of honor in a specially designed and built casket in front of the assembly.

An appropriate symbol of the Vietnam POW/MIAs will always be displayed at VFW events.

The Ventura County Boy Scouts of America, (BSA) will participate by forming an Avenue of Flags led by the Civil Air Patrol Color Guard to the waiting hearse from Conejo Mountain Funeral & Cemetery. The VC Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and Rolling Thunder motorcycle group will respectfully frame the audience for the ceremonies. Rolling Thunder will escort the hearse as it departs for Camarillo down Thousand Oaks Blvd.
