A group headed by the founder of the conservative Freedom Watch is calling on President Obama and other lawmakers to address its “legitimate grievances” or resign from office.
The Reclaim America Now Coalition is set to hold a protest across from the White House on Nov. 19 in Lafayette Park.
The group plans to address reports of widespread National Security Agency surveillance and other instances of Obama’s “cover-up of various scandals.”
At least one congressman, Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) is set to attend the event.
The group said the government needs to fear the people, and compared itself to other legendary nonviolent protesters.
“In the style of Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and others who have changed history and reclaimed freedom, Americans have no choice – as the three branches of government have completely abdicated their representation of citizens’ complaints,” the group said in a release. “The government needs to fear that the people will rise up if things do not change in Washington, D.C.”
The group said it will give Obama and other officials a list of demands, which they can address or they will be encouraged to resign. It was not immediately clear what the specific demands are. The speakers’ agenda includes Benghazi, the healthcare law, immigration and other topics.
