medical times; font-size: 18px;”>Simi Valley Kiwanis Club President, Don Sturt has declared Saturday, September 13 as “Kiwanis Peanut Day in Simi Valley”. This declaration will officially kick off the First Annual Kiwanis Peanut Day fundraising campaign, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley.

“We chose this day to coincide with National Peanut Day.  It also happens to be National Positive Thinking Day, so our hopes are high for a really worthwhile fundraiser”, said Event Chairperson, Nellann Wilson.

On September 13, Kiwanis Members, along with members of the local Key Clubs, Builders Clubs, K-Kids Clubs and Aktion Club will be donning bright orange vests and will target various stores and locations throughout Simi Valley. Wilson has organized a great group of volunteers ready to raise funds for needy kids in our community in exchange for a bag of delicious Kiwanis Peanuts. Contributors on Kiwanis Peanut Day can donate any amount in exchange for a bag of fresh Kiwanis Peanuts.

 “We’ve already announced our pre-Peanut Day underwriting program, directed toward area businesses, to help offset the cost of the peanuts,” said Gwen Major, Club President-Elect. “Any company that contributes $50 or more will get a 100-bag box of delicious Kiwanis Peanuts and will be named as a sponsor on our club’s website during the campaign.  All proceeds will stay in Simi Valley to benefit the needy, the less fortunate and other community needs which would not be met without the Kiwanis and other equally dedicated all-volunteer service organizations.” Any business or organization interested in contributing by purchasing a box of peanuts can contact The Kiwanis Club at 805-807-5100

Through all of their fundraising projects, which includes the Annual ROUND-UP Country Music Festival, the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley last year made contributions totaling more than $50,000 to such worthwhile local organizations as The Free Clinic of Simi Valley, The Simi Valley Family YMCA, The Simi Valley Samaritan Center, The Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley, Key Leader Camp, various school support, annual educational scholarships, and countless other programs.
