CHIP did not renew the ERN for Fisherman’s wharf – however they still have ERNs for every other undeveloped parcel in the Harbor.
Therefore the County will most likely continue to push for apartments/residential as one of the options for any mixed use site as a strong driver of lease money.
We strongly believe there are other options that would maintain the Harbor for families and visitors from all of Oxnard, Ventura County and beyond to enjoy waterfront activities, fishing, boating and recreational activities and not usurp the precious harbor for residential rentals that will only serve developers and the limited population able to afford to live there.
Please remember that the undeveloped parcels are NOT ZONED for residential. The Local Coastal Plan sets a priority for VISITOR SERVING & HARBOR ORIENTED!
WE STILL WANT:
Development that is consistent with the Coastal Act and is visitor-serving and harbor-oriented
An updated Public Works Plan with a comprehensive Master Plan for the entire harbor.
A truly open, transparent RFP (Request for Proposal) process at the harbor with open bidding for development that is not limited to apartment developers’ proposals.
