Lady Washington sets sail for a visit to the Channel Islands Harbor

Lady Washington, the sailing ship with plenty of stories to tell, will make a visit to the Channel Islands Harbor on February 5-16, 2015. The vessel, which has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, will open for public tours and take passengers on two-hour excursions. The ship will also welcome visitors on Monday, February 16, to celebrate the Presidents Day holiday.

Lady Washington will offer walk-on tours and Adventure Sails as part of its visit. Adventure Sails are family-oriented experiences that feature opportunities for guests to help raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, and take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. Tickets are $47 adults and $39 for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets online or call 1-800-200-5239.

Walk-on tours are self-guided opportunities to learn more about Lady Washington and her travels. A $3 donation per person is appreciated and no reservations are required.

Lady Washington is also taking reservations from schools, home-school groups, and service organizations for one-hour and three-hour educational programs that focus on the early exploration of the California coast. These programs feature three learning stations: Life of a Sailor, Life of an Officer, and Early Trade. The programs are designed for students in grade 4-6, though students of all ages are welcome.

The Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority (GHHSA) is a not-for-profit public development authority based in Aberdeen, Washington. GHHSA owns and operates the tall ships Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington, launched March 7, 1989, now the Official Ship of the State of Washington. GHHSA’s mission is to provide educational, vocational, recreational and ambassadorial activities and experiences that promote and preserve the maritime history of Grays Harbor, the Pacific Northwest, and the nation, while serving the needs of the community.
