    Honor. Courage. Loyalty.

The City of Oxnard will pay tribute to American veterans of all wars at a special Veterans Day celebration in Downtown Oxnard on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. The annual downtown event has been organized for last 20 years, and this time around, organizers have added a special walk in honor of veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

The event kicks-off in front of City Hall, 305 West 3rd Street, at 10 AM, with a special dedication and flag ceremony. The public is then invited to join guests and marching bands as they participate in a walk from City Hall to Plaza Park.

The event continues at Plaza Park for a special commemoration program at the Veteran’s Memorial. It should end at about 11:30 or so.

The program will include presentations by invited guests, a raising of the flag, a moment of silence, and the placing of flower arrangements at the base of each of the five monuments by uniformed service members.

“We’ve been celebrating Veterans Day in downtown Oxnard for 21 year now,” said Daniel Martinez, Oxnard City Clerk and main organizer of the event. “But last year, the idea was to do something different and that’s when our Mayor added the walk from City Hall to Plaza Park, as well as inviting various organizations to set up information booths for the public,” said Martinez. “And, we’re hoping next year we’ll continue to make it even bigger,” added Martinez.

By George Miller- This year, Veteran’s Day was observed differently in Oxnard.
