VENTURA, California – In recognition that October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that illegal firearms represent a significant danger in domestic violence incidents.
An illegal firearm in a domestic violence household dramatically increases the risk of homicide. Even if it is never fired, a gun can be used to harass, threaten, and intimidate. It is unlawful for a person who has been convicted of a felony or a recent domestic violence charge, or who is subject to a restraining order, to possess a firearm. Firearm violations can be reported to your local police department or the ATF tip line at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (283-4867) or email [email protected].
