Seeing is Believing: Ride the Proposed Santa Clara River Trail
When: Saturday, October 5th, 2019, 9am – 11am

A group bike ride will take place on existing paths near the River to raise awareness of the larger regional proposed Santa Clara River Loop Trail. Friends of the Santa Clara River and other advocates are working on plans for a regional river trail system that would feature recreation, education, and commuting trails. The ride will start at Windrow Park with stops along the way will highlight River ecology and natural viewpoints, ground and surface water features, connections to regional mass transportation, cultural and historical facts, and bridging between Oxnard and Ventura.
Pull-a-Weed, Plant-a-Plant at Fillmore Fish Hatchery Ethnobotany Interpretive Garden (Day 1)
When: Saturday, October 12th, 2019, 9am – 12pm
Where: 612 E Telegraph Road – Fillmore, CA (map)
Please join us at the Fillmore Fish Hatchery to prepare the new Interpretive Garden for its official public opening (coming soon)! There will be weeding, trail work, planting in the garden and planning for the opening in late March.
Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, a hat and clothes you are happy to get dirty! We’ll have water and snacks but it’s always good to have your own water and sunscreen. We’ll have gloves and tools but bring your own if you’d like.
Directions: From Highway 126, take the turn for the Fillmore Fish Hatchery, 1/2 mile east of Fillmore. Please give time to look and make the turn safely as 126 can be busy. Parking available.
Santa Clara River Clean Up Nature Day
When: Saturday, October 19th, 2019, 9am – 12pm

How many of us live near the Santa Clara River and are unaware of its role in our water supply? Or have seen the critters that live in the riparian habitat? This is the day to find out!
Come take care of the Santa Clara River south bank in a place normally closed to the public. We’ll do a clean up on the river levee from Windrow park to Hwy 101 and have wildlife observation station full of binoculars for you to borrow and see species in the riparian corridor. A professional biologist will be available to assist spotting animals. A flyer for download is here for the event.

Please join us! On Thursday, November 7th, for an OC Live event held at the Oxnard College Performing Arts Building (PAB). Professor of Environmental Science and Geography, Jim Danza M.S. AICP, will be discussing the impact of climate change on Ventura County and the global events that are shaping it.
Professor Danza will also be featuring his own film Alaska is Melting. It is a short film showcasing the beauty of Alaska for inspiration and action, as well as considering the threatening changes that are taking place. You can see a promo video on YouTube here. Ribbon Cutting for the Ethnobotany Native Plant Interpretive Garden at the Fillmore Fish Hatchery (Date Moved)

You’re invited! Please join us on Saturday, March 28th for the public opening. Come fill your senses and be a part of the day! Friends of the Santa Clara River received grant funding for this wonderful Interpretive garden and trail from the California State Coastal Conservancy. USCB and the Santa Clara River Conservancy supported the effort along with volunteers from the public. Enjoy the trail through the garden and learn about our local ecology, wildlife and habitat restoration along the Santa Clara River. Many of the plants share a long history with the local Chumash and Tataviam peoples of the area who used these plants for food, medicine, and building materials. We’ll have locally grown refreshments, native plants for sale to take home and more!
