    Gas Station Skimmer Arrests

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

Two subjects were contacted at Adolfo gas station and ultimately arrested for placing credit card skimmers in gas pumps at the location.

On June 3, 2020, around 11:25 PM, two subjects were observed, via video surveillance, installing skimmers at Adolfo Gas Station, located at 4007 Adolfo Road.  The subjects were associated to a black pickup truck parked at the location.

Camarillo Patrol deputies were dispatched to the scene and upon their arrival, saw two subjects manipulating one of the gas pumps. Deputies attempted to contact the two subjects, but they immediately fled on foot. A perimeter was established and the two subjects were located hiding in nearby bushes and taken into custody without incident.

Deputies conducted a search of the pickup truck associated to the two subjects. In doing so, deputies located skimmers, gift cards, bolt cutters, drills, locks, keys and other tools consistent with skimmer installation and removal.

The two subjects were identified as Juan Sosa-Tamayo and Adrian Leyva-Tamayo.

Juan Sosa-Tamayo and Adrian Leyva-Tamayo were arrested and booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for PC 502(c) – computer access and fraud, PC 502.6(a) – fraudulent use of card scanning device, PC 664/530.5 – attempt identity theft, PC 182(a)(1) -conspiracy, PC 466 – possession of burglary tools, PC 594(a) – vandalism, and PC 148(a)(1) – resisting arrest.

The Camarillo Police Department would like to remind the public to always check for signs of tampering when using a remote pay device or ATM. If something looks odd about the device, don’t use it. Assume someone is watching you when you are entering your PIN and cover the keypad with your free hand when entering the numbers.

If you use a debit or credit card you should always closely monitor your accounts for unauthorized use. Always report unauthorized transactions to your financial institution. Obtain all the information about the illegal uses and report them to the police.

The Camarillo Police Department would like the community to know that we have an anti ‘skimmer’ program in place and regularly check credit card devices throughout the city. If you notice something strange about a device you are using, contact us immediately at 654-9511.
