Governor Gavin Newsom announced that a new mask mandate will start Wednesday, December 15, 2021, and last until January 15, 2022. This new mask mandate comes in response to an increase in coronavirus cases over the last 2 weeks. There was a reported 47% increase in new cases identified in the state over the last two weeks. Looking at the California website tracking COVID cases it is difficult to identify this increase in cases.  Many of the graphs displayed over the last year show that cases have been leveling off over the past few months.

The LA Times reported that  Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical advisor for the pandemic, stated “Real-world evidence is accumulating rapidly — literally on a daily basis — to allow us to determine increase in cases, possible increase in reproductive number and the rapid replacement of Delta by Omicron in certain situations.”

He further clarified his message with “Given severity, hospitalization and death are always lagging indicators, I would imagine it will take at least another couple of weeks before we have a good handle and then a really good handle a few weeks thereafter”. He went on stating, “So I would say we shouldn’t be making any definitive conclusions, certainly not before the next couple of weeks.”
Also noted by the LA Times was a 30% increases in cases over the last 2 weeks in California. They also cited that there was a 3% decrease in COVID related deaths over the same time period.

In addition to the new mask mandate, California is tightening its existing testing requirements for unvaccinated people. For unvaccinated people to attend an indoor event of 1000 people or more, the individual will need to have a negative COVID test within 1 or 2 days of the event.

The state is also recommending that those who visit or return to California, get tested within 5 days of their arrival.  The Ventura County Star posted this on Instagram on Monday. The majority of those who follow the Ventura County Star on Instagram  were not pleased with the new mandate and were eager to voice their opinion on the new rule.

BMW133- Good to know the new variant has an expiration date of January 15th. Any guesses on the new variant after January 15th?

Joshgates- Meanwhile unmasked states “COVID numbers” are plummeting

Goodforyougoods- The data is very clear nationwide and very easy for anyone to see at this point. The rates of how much better the less restricted states are doing have been known for some time. As soon as you turn off MSNBC you can easily find it. Manipulation is real. Time to ask yourself why Florida and other states are living differently than California and have been for some time.”

The overwhelming impression from the 207 comments on Instagram are that masks do not work, COVID fatigue is the next pandemic, and Governor Newsom has no credibility imposing liberal enslavement mandates.
