Narrative:
On 10/28/21, at approximately 05:27 AM, deputies at the Sheriff’s Pre-Trial Detention Facility (PTDF) were notified by an inmate that their cellmate was un-responsive. Deputies responded to the cell and immediately summoned medical staff and Emergency Medical Services. Ventura City Fire and American Medical Response personnel arrived and declared Barra deceased.
Barra had no signs of trauma or injuries. The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigates all inmate deaths.
