KidSTREAM Appoints Two New Directors to its Board

New members bring depth of knowledge and strengths to kidSTREAM leadership team

CAMARILLO, Calif.– KidSTREAM, Ventura County’s children’s museum, is moving into a new stage of growth as plans develop to open the museum to the public in 2021. kidSTREAM’s board is growing strategically by adding two members, Hillary McLoughlin and Jake Furlow, whose strengths and experiences will help guide the emerging children’s museum opening.

“We are incredibly honored to have Hillary and Jake join our team as we ramp up to open,” said kidSTREAM Executive Director, Michael Shanklin, “We are equally thrilled that both new directors bring experience, strength, and passion to serve the children of our region.”

Hilary McLoughlin is an Executive Director of Strategic Planning & Operations at Amgen. She is responsible for leading the strategic direction and supporting business processes for several Amgen sites across the globe. In her role, she focuses on building a culture of collaboration, agility, and accountability within her leadership team.

McLoughlin was introduced to kidSTREAM through California Lutheran University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership which introduces key community leaders to nonprofit organizations. Upon accepting her position as a Board Director, Hillary says, “kidSTREAM has taken an active role to excite our future scientists, artists, and leaders by building an experiential space to create, explore and play. I am delighted and honored to join the kidSTREAM team, which will undoubtedly benefit our children and future generations in our wonderful community.”

Jake Furlow is a private banker at J.P. Morgan Private Bank, where he has been working after twelve years in the financial services industry as a clerk on the floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange as well as an institutional account executive at both Jeffries & Company and Imperial Capital in Los Angeles. Community service has been a part of Mr. Furlow’s life for some time, and he volunteers actively through several youth focused organizations throughout the Conejo Valley as well as national organizations dedicated to youth and community building.

Furlow sees the mission of kidSTREAM aligned with his personal values, and said, “It is an honor to be part of this project. There is nothing more precious than the creativity and imagination of a child. The opportunity to join this board at this point in the project was just too exciting to pass up. I look forward to doing my part and to help create a long-lasting resource for use by all the children of Ventura County.”

Founded in 2016, kidSTREAM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to create an engaging environment for children and families to explore, play and discover; inspiring them to become critical thinkers, innovators, and life-long learners.
