    Letters to the Editor

Copy of letter sent to the Port Hueneme City Council for public comment:

To the honorable Port Hueneme City Council.

I have a few points to be made hoping that the City council will clarify the issues and seek insight from the City Attorney.

Martha R. McQueen-Legohn and Laura D. Hernandez, were endorsed by the County Democratic Party. Reportedly both candidates pledged to uphold the County Democrat Party platform in exchange for the endorsement. If true, that raises the question of their oath to the office and the Constitution of the United States and the State of California. If they will be make decisions based on the Democratic Party platform rather than their oath of office, that would certainly place their integrity into question.

Regarding the Cannabis businesses that are not in compliance with their contract with the city, the integrity of the council was brought to mind when it was made clear that three of the council members had to recuse themselves because they had taken donations from these businesses. Because three council persons were recused there would not be a quorum to vote on this issue. This entire incident brought up the question of whether the council had ever heard of the term common sense or graft.

Greed determined making Port Hueneme a Cannabis center for Ventura County and Greed is what has spawned this predicament.

I would like to know what the City Attorney recommends to rectify this problem.

My recommendation to this comedy of errors is to have a special election and remove those council members who accepted donations from the Cannabis companies and those members who pledged to support the Democratic Party platform.

The citizens of Port Hueneme deserve a better group of people directing city business.
