On August 15, 2023, at approximately 12:40 A.M., Oxnard police officers responded to a shooting victim in the 1600 block of East First Street. When officers arrived, they located 28-year-old Diego Espinoza suffering from gunshot wounds.
Espinoza was transported by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center. Despite lifesaving measures by the medical staff, Espinoza was pronounced deceased at approximately 6:40 A.M.
Detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation. There is no clear motive for the shooting at this time.
Investigators are encouraging anyone who has any information, or may have heard or seen anything to contact Detective Charles Buttell at (805) 385-7688. The City of Oxnard offers a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any individuals responsible for committing homicides within the City.
