VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that William Justin Koznar (DOB 04/27/88), of Moorpark, was charged with the October 7, 2020, murder of Sara Goodwin, of Modesto, California. The complaint charges one count of murder.
Ms. Goodwin died from multiple blunt force trauma at a hospital after an altercation with Koznar. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office arrested Koznar at a hotel in Moorpark on October 7, 2020. At the time of her death, Koznar and Ms. Goodwin were in a dating relationship.
On October 9, 2020, Koznar appeared for arraignment. He entered a plea of not guilty and set the case for an early disposition conference on October 20, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 and for preliminary hearing on October 23, 2020, at 8:15 a.m. in courtroom 14 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Koznar is currently in custody with bail set at $1 million.
