    Multiple Gang Members Arrested with Loaded Firearms

    During the months of December 2022 and January 2023, West County Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) detectives saw a rise in gang related activity associated to the unincorporated area of El Rio.

    On January 26, 2023, West County Special Enforcement Unit detectives conducted gang enforcement on known gang members from the El Rio area.

    During this operation, detectives observed Jonathan Ziegler, who was wanted for a recent vandalism / street terrorism investigation stemming from a Headquarters Patrol investigation. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle Jonathan Ziegler was occupied in at the 300 block of Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard.

    During the traffic stop, Jonathan Ziegler exited the vehicle and began to fight with detectives in an attempt to avoid arrest. Simultaneously, Angel Ziegler also exited the vehicle and began to fight with detectives as he was armed with a loaded firearm. Detectives arrested Angel Ziegler for resisting arrest, carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a firearm not properly registered. Jonathan Ziegler was also arrested for the outstanding want for his arrest, resisting arrest, possession of cannabis, felony criminal conspiracy and felony street terrorism.

    Detectives additionally contacted (7) other occupants of the vehicle. The driver, Andrew Flores was contacted and arrested for felony criminal conspiracy, felony street terrorism, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and allowing a passenger to be in possession of an illegally loaded firearm.

    Brayer Acevedo, who was also contacted in the vehicle, was arrested for felony criminal conspiracy, felony street terrorism, possession of a concealed dirk or dagger, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felon in possession of ammunition and possession of graffiti tools to commit vandalism.

    A male juvenile, who was also located in the vehicle, was contacted and found to be in possession of a loaded “Ghost Gun”. The juvenile was arrested for felony firearm violations, felony criminal conspiracy and felony street terrorism.

    Jonathan Ziegler, Angel Ziegler, Brayer Acevedo and Andrew Flores were booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility. The male Juvenile was booked and lodged at the Ventura County Juvenile Detention Facility. Jonathan Ziegler remains in custody on $50,000 bail and is scheduled for court on 2/8/2023. Angel Ziegler was released from custody on his Own Recognizance on 2/1/2023. Brayer Acevedo remains in custody for a violation of probation. Andrew Flores remains in custody on $125,000 bail and his next court date is on 2/2/2023. The male juvenile remains in custody with no bail and is scheduled for court on 2/7/2023.

    The West County Special Enforcement Unit is comprised of eight detectives, who focus on protecting West County communities by actively investigating illegal firearm activities. The Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase of unlawful firearm activities in Ventura County, including illegal “ghost guns”.
