    New Year Brings New, Virtual Art Classes to the Santa Paula Art Museum

    SANTA PAULA, CA – The new year means new, virtual art classes at the Santa Paula Art Museum! While the physical Museum remains closed due to COVID restrictions, you can still enjoy the joy and solace that art and community offer by taking a live, online art class with one of the Santa Paula Art Museum’s incredible teaching artists. Discover a new skill or passion in 2021! Reserve your spot in class at www.santapaulaartmuseum.org.

    In January, tap into your inner art lover and practice the skills of art appreciation as we study the lives and works of women artists in the Museum’s new, virtual Art Appreciation course. Join longtime art professor Meg Phelps online for a historical survey across centuries featuring artists Artemisia Gentileschi, Elizabeth Vigee-Lebrun, Mary Cassat, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, and many others. This course will meet online via Zoom on four Wednesdays: Wednesday, January 20, 2021; Wednesday, January 27, 2021; Wednesday, February 3, 2021; and Wednesday, February 10, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day. The cost of this four-part virtual course is $85.00 per person. Zoom app download and preregistration are required.

    No matter what your artistic practice, an understanding of color theory is crucial to the visual success of any artwork. Join popular teaching artist Gabriel Islas online to learn the essentials of Color Theory for Painting, as well as the science, history, and character of pigments. Finish the course with a beautiful, painted color wheel that you’ll be able to reference well into the future. This course will meet online via Zoom on four Saturdays: Saturday, January 23, 2021; Saturday, January 30, 2021; Saturday, February 6, 2021; and Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day. The cost of this four-part virtual course is $140.00 per person. Supply kits will be available for pick up from the Museum before the start of the course. Zoom app download and preregistration are required. Space is extremely limited.

    The Museum will be offering up plenty of fun in February with its new Pet Portraits with Jem course. Join teaching artist Jem Morris online and learn how to paint a portrait of your pet or favorite animal. Jem will guide you through the entire process, including drawing and acrylic painting techniques. You’ll finish the course with a complete pet portrait to show off to your friends! This course will meet online via Zoom on four Saturdays: Saturday, February 20, 2021; Saturday, February 27, 2021; Saturday, March 6, 2021; and Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day. The cost of this four-part virtual course is $140.00 per person. Supply kits will be available for pick up from the Museum before the start of the course. Zoom app download and preregistration are required. Space is extremely limited.

    The Santa Paula Art Museum occupies two historic buildings located at 117 N 10th Street and 123 N 10th Street in downtown Santa Paula. The Museum features rotating exhibitions of vintage and contemporary art, art classes for children and adults, monthly Free Family Days, creative community events, a well-curated gift shop, and more.
