Oxnard Man Pleads Guilty in 2017 Shooting

Jonathan Zambrano (DOB 1/24/90), of Oxnard, pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and admitted personally using a firearm in the killing of Albert Salazar, also from Oxnard.

On July 19, 2017, Zambrano, Mr. Salazar, and others were in the 1300 block of West Guava Street standing outside of a residence. Perceiving Mr. Salazar as a threat, Zambrano took out a gun and shot him one time. After the shooting, Mr. Salazar was transported by a private party to the Oxnard Police Department’s parking lot, where responding officers administered first aid until EMS arrived. Mr. Salazar was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, where he later died.

Zambrano will be sentenced on March 12, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 14 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Zambrano is expected to be sentenced to 22 years in state prison. He is being held without bail in the Ventura County Jail.
