Andrew Rodriguez, (DOB 4/4/82), of Oxnard, was sentenced to seven years in state prison for the death of Alexander Benavidez, also of Oxnard. On January 27, 2021, Rodriguez pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and admitted personally using a knife during the incident.
On March 14, 2020, Rodriguez and Mr. Benavidez engaged in a verbal confrontation which became physical at a shopping center near the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and South ‘C’ Street, in the city of Oxnard. The confrontation ended with Rodriguez stabbing Mr. Benavidez one time with a knife. Paramedics arrived at the scene but were unable to save Mr. Benavidez’s life.
