    By George Miller

In a 5-1 vote, the Oxnard Planning Commission declined to approve a request by the county to change Oxnard’s Local Coastal Plan to allow a 400 apartment unit redevelopment plan for the faded icon Fisherman’s Wharf property in Channel Islands Harbor. As a former Oxnard Planning Commissioner, This was a big mistake rejecting this application. The Harbor was building for just this type of development (mixed-use). This harbor should be thriving with activity, but the old NIMBY’s are at it again. Until you can get people to understand what Smart Growth will do to a community, you will never have a functioning C.I. Harbor. Traffic will always be an issue, there are ways to work around this. EDUCATE YOURSELVES – Be a part of the solution. Don’t be so shut off to what can be a positive thing. Change is always hard, but without change, there is no growth. It was ok you to have kids and grow your family, but now the impacts of this are hurting our communities. Now – your grown children need a place to live, you just denied their ability to live independently here.

Thank God this was denied. Now if the city / county can infuse some funds or find a developer who can rehab the property as it stands- that would be awesome.
Maybe someday the City of Oxnard will be the beautiful city if used to be.

Yeh! Just the traffic alone is a major problem.
