    Oxnard Resident Found Guilty of Four Counts of Premeditated Attempted Murder on Peace Officers and Related Crimes

    Augustine Rincon Medina (DOB 07/18/65), of Oxnard, guilty of four counts of premeditated, willful and deliberate attempted murder of two Sheriff’s deputies and two Oxnard police officers. The jury found that Medina personally used a firearm in these crimes. The jury also found Medina guilty of six additional charges including domestic battery, felony evading an officer, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and unlawful firearm activity. 

    On October 24, 2011, Medina battered his former girlfriend in Oxnard and fled to Ojai. Within the hour, Sheriff’s deputies in the Ojai area observed Medina commit traffic violations and attempted to stop the car. Medina opened fire on the deputies, who were still seated in their patrol cars. A pursuit ensued onto the 101 freeway and Medina shot four rounds through the windshield and body of an occupied Sheriff’s K-9 patrol car. The pursuit continued into Oxnard where Medina fired his gun while driving through an alley near his former girlfriend’s residence. Medina also fired upon pursuing Oxnard police officers and Sheriff’s deputies, striking the hood of an Oxnard police car occupied by two officers.

    Medina will be sentenced on December 9, 2020, at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 10 of the Ventura County Superior Court.  Medina faces a maximum sentence of 123 years 4 months to life in prison.
