Port Hueneme Police Department – Incident Press Release
On Friday September 11th, 2020 at approximately 7:45 PM, several Officers from the Port Hueneme Police Department were conducting a traffic collision investigation in the area of Port Hueneme Road and N. Surfside Drive. The traffic collision involved two vehicles and the driver from one of the vehicles fled on foot from the accident scene.
While engaged in the traffic collision investigation, a fight broke out across the street in the 600 block of Port Hueneme Road involving at least six subjects, one armed with a bat. Officers ran across the street from their location to stop the altercation. Three suspects fled from the scene, including the suspect armed with the baseball bat. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit through the north alley of Hueneme Road. The suspect with the bat continued to run through the alley.
Officers continued to pursue the suspect with a bat, who eventually entered into a courtyard of an apartment complex in the 100 block of Ann Avenue. Prior to entering the courtyard, the suspect discarded the bat in the alley. The suspect ran through the apartment complex onto Ann Avenue where the foot pursuit continued briefly until he was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as Gabriel Garcia, 24 years old from Ventura. Garcia was charged with 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was later transported to the Ventura County Main Jail. During the altercation one victim suffered head injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
