News Release
The National Weather Service and Ventura County Sheriff Emergency Services are monitoring an unusual summer weather pattern. Currently, Tropical Storm Hilary is currently moving along the Mexican coast with the potential to be upgraded to a Hurricane by tomorrow 8/17. This could potentially impact Ventura County with strong winds, followed by heavy rain and rough seas as early as Sunday through Tuesday.
This is an unusual storm as it could bring a large amount of rain during the summer, that we normally do not see except during an El Niño weather pattern. Early rainfall estimates are between 1”-7”.
Be prepared for the upcoming heavy rain, as there may be impacts to:
- Exterior Building projects
- Roadway projects or repairs
- Waterways or drainage projects and/or repairs using heavy equipment
- Outdoor Events
For updates on the developing storm, please visit Los Angeles, CA (weather.gov) and/or National Hurricane Center.
Ventura County Sheriff Emergency Services will be hosting an Operational Area Conference Call on Friday 8/18 and Saturday 8/19 at 1500 hours, and as needed until this weather even has passed. Invite will be sent shortly to the Op Area coordination group.
