Ready or Not Livestream Events Bring Wildfire Preparedness E-Learning Program to Students in Southern California Edison’s Service Area

Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison (SCE), has partnered with The National Theatre for Children (NTC) to educate students and their families about wildfire preparedness in  SCE’s service area. SCE and NTC have partnered to bring in-person theatrical performances into schools since 2012. This spring, the topic of wildfire preparedness has been adapted into an all-digital alternative as schools continue to combine classroom instruction with distance learning.

This school year, e-learning programs that can be delivered remotely to teachers and students are an important way to reinforce the curriculum and form connections. The Ready or Not: Preparing for Wildfires livestream event allows SCE and NTC to bring vital emergency preparedness information to schools and families.

This spring, NTC will deliver Ready or Not: Preparing for Wildfires to teachers and students in elementary schools, delivering a remote e-learning program throughout the utility’s service area. The program will resume in fall 2021.

Ready or Not: Preparing for Wildfires focuses on the difference between a disaster, emergency and hazard; what a family emergency plan is; how wildfires start; and who to seek for help in an emergency. The livestream events feature a live host who introduces the program, sets up and recaps a series of four educational sketches, and leads a Q&A in which students and teachers can submit questions for the host to answer live in real time.

The Ready or Not livestreams are supplemented by a full digital curriculum including games, activities, e-books, hands-on lessons, assessments for educators and smart speaker apps. Edison International sponsors every aspect of the program, making the e-learning package a cost-free supplement to lessons in science, literacy and the arts.
