Report: Lyft CEO Says Company May Cease Operations

At Height of Pandemic, Smith’s AB5 Could Mean Hundreds of Thousands of Lost Jobs, Lost Transportation for Seniors
Valencia, CA – In yet another example of how Christy Smith’s signature legislation, AB5, is on the cusp of crushing Californians even further, Lyft CEO Logan Green said in a court filing that Lyft may have to cease operations if AB5 is upheld.

“Liberal politician Christy Smith’s AB5 has already resulted in lost California jobs, but hundreds of thousands of more jobs are now on the line with Lyft saying they may cease operations in California altogether if her legislation is upheld,” said Congressman Mike Garcia (R, CA-25). “The consequences of Smith’s law forcing Lyft to close would be devastating for people like seniors who rely on Lyft to get to doctors appointments or grocery visits.”

The San Francisco Chronicle reported over the weekend that Lyft CEO Logan Green said they may cease all California operations if AB5 is allowed to stand.

Liberal Smith and her Sacramento allies even budgeted 20 million taxpayer dollars for the state to enforce AB5.

“AB5 could literally mean lost transportation opportunities for seniors and even more lost jobs, yet liberal Smith has doubled down on her support of this disastrous legislation,” said Garcia.
