Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On 11/15/2020, at approximately 1:50 PM, deputies at the Sheriff’s Pre-Trial Detention Facility discovered 43 year old Santa Paula resident Scott Hultman alone and unresponsive in his cell. Deputies immediately rendered aid and summoned medical staff. Ventura City Fire and American Medical Response personnel responded to provide more advanced care and transported Mr. Hultman by ambulance to a local hospital. On 11/19/2020, medical staff determined that Mr. Hultman had no brain activity nor any chance of survival. Since Mr. Hultman was an organ donor, he remained on life support until organ donation arrangements could be made on 11/23/2020.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigates all inmate deaths.
