CHIP did not renew the ERN for Fisherman’s wharf – however they still have ERNs for every other undeveloped parcel in the Harbor.
Therefore the County will most likely continue to push for apartments/residential as one of the options for any mixed use site as a strong driver of lease money.
We strongly believe there are other options that would maintain the Harbor for families and visitors from all of Oxnard, Ventura County and beyond to enjoy waterfront activities, fishing, boating and recreational activities and not usurp the precious harbor for residential rentals that will only serve developers and the limited population able to afford to live there.
Please remember that the CI Harbor is Public Land, Held In Public Trust and not owned by Ventura County, but managed. Fisherman’s Wharf is in Oxnard’s jurisdiction, discovered in my research years ago and vetted by Coastal Commission. Ventura County only manages our harbor because it’s sovereign land. All recorded at County Recorders Office in black and white. It is a Cultural Resource and is protected by Public Prescriptive Right. The other 2 Parcels are not zoned for apartments and Sargent Group/Vision Team and County still do not want to listen to our Coastal Commission. At $200,000 a year plus expenses, nothing accomplished but Mr. Sandoval has made lots of money off of us. We need a theme destination presentation and not keep beating a dead horse idea, like apartments. Build those at old Oxnard High School with a smaller Skate Park.
See you on the 28th!
