On Thursday, President Joe Biden boasted that young American women who supported abortion “showed up and beat the hell out of them [Republicans]” in the midterms. Many pundits believe that abortion is a litmus test issue for our electorate. And they surmise that the Supreme Courts’ Dobbs decision which overturned Roe v Wade was one of the main reasons why the Republicans did not have the red wave that was predicted. And they are correct. Young single women voted overwhelmingly (+37 points) for Democrats. And that in and of itself tipped many of the close races on Tuesday away from Republicans. So, young single women did beat the hell out of Republicans.
You know who else those single women are going to beat the hell out of, all the little babies they are going to abort – all those babies whose arms and legs are going to be ripped off, whose skulls are going to be crushed, whose brains are going to be sucked out. Those babies are literally going to get the hell beat out of them. Great job young American women. Good for you. You should be very proud of how many more babies you will help kill because of the way you voted on Tuesday. You go girl.
But there is someone else to whom abortion is a litmus test issue. God. Jesus made his feelings about children very clear. He said, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” (Mark 9:34-37) He preached that being “childlike” is a pre-requisite for salvation. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (Mark 10:15) “Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt 18:3-4)
Jesus humbled himself for our salvation. He became vulnerable so he could relate to the vulnerable, especially the most vulnerable among us. He came to earth in the form of a human being to be mocked and humiliated, beaten and hung on a tree to die for our salvation. So, it only makes sense that we should be called to humble ourselves, as well. He said, “whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matt 23:12)
Who is the most humble among us? Who is the most vulnerable? The unborn baby. But the left uses their vulnerability, their smallness as the justification to kill them. The left does not claim that the unborn baby is not alive; they do not claim that the unborn baby is not human; their primary argument to justify abortion is that the baby is so small, so insignificant, so vulnerable to the point that it gives others the right to kill them.
Jesus teaches the exact opposite. Jesus sees the smallest, the most vulnerable, the least significant as the most important, the most valuable, are on par with him – the son of God. What the left uses as the criteria to justify killing a person, Jesus uses as the very reason to glorify that person, to sanctify that person, to elevate that person as the greatest in his kingdom. He said, “For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.” (Luke 9:48)
So, what have we been doing to the very least among us? We have been killing over 800,000 of the least among us every year. And not only are we killing babies, on Tuesday, in states like Montana, Arkansas, Michigan and California, led by young single women, we rejected ballot measures that would require doctors and nurses to provide medical treatment to aborted babies born alive. So, trained medical professionals who could provide the medical treatment to save the baby, can stand there as a baby is gasping for life and do nothing, simply watch him die. Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.” (Matt 25:45) Every doctor and nurse who watches a baby who survived an abortion die without offering medical treatment is no better than the Roman soldiers who watched Jesus die on the cross, no better than Pilate who could have saved Jesus but did nothing.
Jesus warned about the mistreatment of children when he said, “whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matt 18:6) He also warned that “when the Son of Man comes in his glory… he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.” (Matt 25:31-33)
In the not-so-distant future, the leaders of the Democrat party, Catholics Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, will stand in front of their maker as he is separating sheep from goats. If I were them, I would not want to have abortion on my ledger. I am not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I have sinned more than I even want to admit. But I know that abortion is evil. It is the incarnate of evil. Every abortion is not merely the removal of benign piece of flesh from a woman’s body, it is the killing of Jesus all over again because Jesus said, “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matt 25:40)
Ironically, during the campaign, Joe Biden claimed that this election was about the “soul of the nation”. And there is not an issue that is more revealing of the state of a person’s soul and a nation’s soul, then abortion. Anyone who has ever seen an ultrasound of a 10-week gestation baby – the baby’s arms, legs, head, beating heart, there is only one conclusion – the baby is a living human being, and aborting it is tantamount to murder. Anyone who comes to another conclusion is merely lying to themselves. Jesus said, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36) Republicans could have moderated their position on abortion to win a few more seats on Tuesday, but what does it profit a man to win a congressional seat, and lose his soul?
