    Subject Arrested for Firearm Possession

    NEWS RELEASE

    On August 21st at 1:15 am, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a subject in possession of a firearm in the 600 block of S. A Street. The reporting party stated the subject in possession of the firearm had entered a blue Mercedes and was leaving the area. Officers arrived on scene, located the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of S. Oxnard Boulevard.

    Officers detained two subjects in the vehicle without incident. The officers learned that there was a firearm in the vehicle. The driver, Vazquez, admitted to possessing the firearm, a loaded P80 firearm with a high capacity magazine. Vazquez was arrested for multiple firearms violations. The passenger of the vehicle was released at the scene.

    No mention for what firearms violations Mr. Vazquez was arrested. Could it be possible that Mr. Vazquez is a felon and possession of a firearm is another felony? It used to be a quite serious felony. Now it is a slap on the hand and a “Don’t do it again” warning.
