Take Metrolink Service to Lunar New Year Celebrations in Downtown Los Angeles for Family-Friendly Fun

LOS ANGELES – Metrolink makes travelling to Lunar New Year activities in Los Angeles, including the 121st Annual Golden Dragon parade through the streets of Chinatown on Feb. 1, easy and stress-free, while allowing travelers to avoid traffic jams and parking fees. Metrolink helps save money with the $10 Weekend Day Pass for travel on Saturdays and Sundays for one low price.

Regular Saturday service is available on Metrolink’s Antelope Valley, San Bernardino and 91/Perris Valley lines, while enhanced service will be offered on the Orange County Line. Trains to downtown Los Angeles go to Los Angeles Union Station, just a few blocks from Chinatown and the Golden Dragon parade route. Visitors can also transfer at no extra charge to the Metro Gold Line and exit at the Chinatown Station.

The $10 Weekend Day Pass can be purchased on the day of travel on the Metrolink app, which is available for free download on the App Store or Google Play, or at a Metrolink station ticket machine.

People can begin their Lunar New Year celebration at the Irvine Station, as the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) will host an event that includes a traditional lion dance, prizes and refreshments. The Irvine Station celebration will begin at 8 a.m. with the first 200 attendees receiving a free round trip Metrolink ticket.

Metrolink and OCTA will offer two additional northbound departures from the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Station on Saturday with trains leaving at 8:58 a.m., 9:18 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. to accommodate those attending the Irvine event and boarding from other Orange County stations. The Golden Dragon Parade in Los Angeles begins at Hill and Temple streets and proceeds north through Chinatown to Bernard Street, turning east to North Broadway, then south to Cesar Chavez Avenue.

The Golden Dragon Parade includes floats, marching bands, government officials and local business leaders. Lunar New Year activities are family-friendly with face painting, storytelling and paper folding along with Kung Fu demonstrations, traditional music and food trucks.
