    Teen Charged with Murder of Charles Barber and Series of Robberies

    A 17-year-old juvenile male, of Oxnard, has been charged with murder and use of a knife for the stabbing death of Charles Mikell Barber, of Oxnard, on June 24, 2019. The juvenile has also been charged with four robberies that occurred from May 23, 2019, to June 24, 2019, and special allegations that he personally used a knife in two of the robberies, and caused great bodily injury to a victim over the age of 70 in one of the robberies.

    Mr. Barber died from multiple stab wounds during an altercation with the juvenile. After a thorough investigation by detectives with the Oxnard Police Department, he was arrested on August 25, 2019.

    The juvenile appeared in court on August 27, 2019, and Judge Manuel Covarrubias ordered him detained.  The hearing was continued to October 10, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom J4 of the Juvenile Justice Center. The District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion to transfer the juvenile to Ventura County Superior Court for prosecution as an adult.
