(Ojai, CA – September 9, 2019) An environmental consultant, Henry N. Mooney will discuss the direct links between plastics and fossil fuels, and the pitfalls of a throw-away society on Wednesday, September 18 at the Ojai Library. The event is free and open to the public. The event is presented by the County of Ventura and the Ventura County Library. It will begin at 6 pm.

After an extensive tri-continental educational career, travel, and research, Henry is determined to showcase the pitfalls of both the mass production and mass consumption of instantly disposable plastics, illuminating the less-commonly discussed missing pieces of the argument through every phase of a plastic’s life cycle. Most literature and media coverage regarding plastics explores its effects exclusively on the natural environment or the cultural aspect of a throw-away economy. Though noble, these perspectives often ignore other vital components comprising the argument against the mass production and consumption of disposable polymers.

Henry speaks out about the infrequently discussed social and economic implications of our global reliance on plastics. He delves further into the hidden social and economic costs of our massive plastic footprint, connecting plastics to fossil fuel industries, resource conflict, petrodollar volatility, the destruction of ecosystem services, and perpetuating instant gratification in consumer behavior.
