Upcoming waterline replacement project on Telegraph Road

    News Release

Ventura, Calif. – Starting mid-July 2023, the City of Ventura will begin a waterline replacement project on Telegraph Road between Hill and Mills Road. Construction is expected to be completed by fall 2024.

The Midtown to Westside Interconnect Project will allow water to be moved more efficiently from the east side of the City to the west, which will allow the City to utilize all supply sources (existing and future) more effectively. The current anticipated cost of the project is $11 million and includes $2 million in funding from the Integrated Regional Water Management (IRMM) Grant.

“This project will provide improved water delivery to the westside of Ventura and is an important step in our ongoing commitment to providing reliable, safe, and sustainable water services for our community,” shared Mayor Joe Schroeder.

The project will include the installation of a new 12-inch waterline along Telegraph Road and will replace an existing 8-inch line that has been in place since the 1950s. As part of this project, Ventura Water will also be replacing several fire hydrants and valves in order to improve fire protection service in the area.

A street resurfacing project, funded by SB1, is anticipated to begin after the completion of the waterline project on Telegraph Road between Ashwood to Victoria Avenue.

Construction impacts include lane closures and night work between the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The night work is planned at the intersections of Victoria Avenue and Mills Road to minimize traffic impacts. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Access to businesses and residences will always remain available. Additional notifications will be sent by the contractor, Sam Hills, and Sons, Inc. 72 hours in advance of work in the immediate area as the project progresses.
