Ventura, CA | CPUC Under Fire For Gas Infrastructure Expansion In Neighborhoods

Ventura, CA — Residents of Aliso Canyon, Playa Del Rey and West Ventura will use the public comment period at the California Public Utilities Commission voting meeting to critique the agency’s moves to expand natural gas infrastructure in vulnerable communities.

Residents of West Ventura, fresh from achieving a temporary halt to work on SoCalGas’ compressor station, will urge the CPUC to go further and require a full Environmental Impact Review before any further work is completed at the compressor site, which sits across the street from an elementary school and Boys and Girls Club. On August 20, the CPUC sent a letter to SoCalGas requesting the company complete an alternatives analysis before continuing to expand the compressor, stopping short of requiring a complete Environmental Impact Review.

They will be joined by other community members from Porter Ranch and the LA area fighting to stop SoCalGas expansions at the Playa Del Rey and Aliso Canyon Storage facility. The CPUC is currently considering increasing capacity at the Aliso Canyon storage facility, site of the worst methane leak in US history, despite a directive from Governor Newsom to shut the facility down.
