    Ventura, Calif. —The City of Ventura is pleased to offer two free upcoming workshops on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, designed to address accessibility challenges within Ventura’s built environment.

    “This forum provides a valuable opportunity for individuals and businesses to gain insights into accessibility and code changes,” said Ventura Chief Building Official, Shawn Huff. “It offers architects, designers, professionals, advocates, and accessibility enthusiasts a platform to collaborate, exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore innovative solutions to promote a more inclusive built environment.”

    The Engaging Disabled Access and Code Changes Forum is free and will be held in two sessions: the first from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and the second from 2:00 – 5:30 p.m. Both sessions will be hosted in the Community Meeting Room at City Hall, located at 501 Poli Street in Ventura. Advance registration is encouraged.

    The forum will focus on a range of critical topics, including:

    • Accessibility laws for businesses: Discuss the latest legal requirements for businesses.
    • Potential liability for a business: Explore the implications and responsibilities of businesses in the context of accessibility.
    • Accessibility for outdoor dining: Examine outdoor dining areas’ accessibility and compliance.
    • Most common violations alleged in accessibility lawsuits: Identify prevalent issues in accessibility litigation.
    • Evaluating a business: Practical tips and guidance for assessing a business’s compliance with accessibility standards.

    Industry expert John Caprarelli, P.E., CASp, Building Official for the City of Santa Clarita, and CALBO Educator of the Year award recipient will lead the event.

    This event is free and open to anyone interested in promoting accessibility.
