    Young Artists Ensemble Holds Auditions for Fantastic Mr. Fox

    THOUSAND OAKS, CA – Young Artists Ensemble holds auditions for Roald Dahl’s FANTASTIC MR. FOX directed by Suzanne Tobin. Auditions are open to performers age 10-19.   Auditions are held Saturday and Sunday, November 23 and 24 by appointment only at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 West Hillcrest Drive. Time slots begin at 9:45 am on Saturday and 10:00 am on Sunday.  Actors are requested to prepare a one-minute memorized monologue or poem and wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in.  Each audition will last two hours and may include improvisation, cold reading and dance.  Young Artists Ensemble performances are February 1 – 17, 2019 and Conejo Theatre for Everyone performances are February 21 -23, 2020.  If cast, participants must be available for all dress rehearsals and performances through February 23, 2020.   Please see web site for all details.

    All participants must be at least 10 years old and not yet 20 years old by February 23, 2020.  Character descriptions and all other information is available on the YAE web site.  Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm and Saturdays 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.   All cast and parents must attend a mandatory welcome meeting on Monday, December 1 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.     Fantastic Mr. Fox is Roald Dahl’s much-loved story adapted for the stage by David Wood that follows the vain attempts of three farmers to get rid of the fox who regularly steals food from their farms. Outwitted at every turn, the farmer’s ploys backfire. Fantastic Mr. Fox devises a plan which will ensure full stomachs for not only his family, but all his friends, who celebrate with a sumptuous feast. Performances are January 31 – February 16, 2020.  An additional final weekend includes performance by CONEJO THEATRE FOR EVERYONE, teaming up YAE kids and performers with special needs for a unique theatrical experience on Feb 21-23, 2020.

    Fantastic Mr. Fox is the second production in Young Artists Ensemble’s 39th Annual Family Theatre Season.  The “Season of Unexpected Magic” will conclude with Freaky Friday May 1-17, 2020.  Tickets can be purchased for both shows at a deep discount by contacting the box office at (805) 381-1246 or www.yaeonline.com

    Freaky Friday is the new musical about an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who magically swap bodies.  They have just one day to put things right again. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter. FREAKY FRIDAY is the third and final production in Young Artists Ensemble’s 39th Annual Family Theatre Season and is presented May 1-17, 2020.

    On Sunday, June 3, 2019, Young Artists Ensemble received 25 nominations and eight wins for their 2018-19 Productions.  Winners in the 14th Annual National Youth Arts Awards included Outstanding Production: In the Heights, Outstanding Ensemble: The Little Prince, Outstanding Choreography:  Mayme Paul for In the Heights, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical: Sarah Kay as Nina and Patrick Mayoral as Usnavi in In the Height, Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Musical: Quinn Martin as Vanessa in In the Heights, and Outstanding Supporting Performance (Junior Division): Chloe Skye Garcia as Fox and Maddie Ragsdale as Rose in The Little Prince.  Among the many nominees were performers and creative staff from Young Artists Ensemble’s productions of In the Heights, The Little Prince, Charlotte’s Web, Once Upon A Mattress, and Mary Poppins Jr.
