Press Release
On Tuesday May 10, 2022 a school resource officer responded to Isbell Middle School for the recovery of what appeared to be a handgun by a school employee. The handgun was later determined to be a pellet gun however it appeared so real that it not only deceived the school employee but also initially deceived the school resource officer.
The Santa Paula Police Department would like to ask all parents to not allow their children access to these pellet/air soft/BB guns as they look so realistic. While possession of these realistic looking replica firearms generally is not illegal, the mere presence of them can over complicate a very simplistic situation.
The juvenile who brought the pellet gun to school was located and the situation is being handled by school administration. Attached is a photo of the recovered pellet gun and of a real gun carried by one of the officers that day. When compared the recovered BB gun to an actual firearm and you can see how difficult it is to tell the difference to the untrained eye.
