On April 7th, 2020, detectives from the Moorpark Investigations Bureau arrested Christopher Lewis of Simi Valley on several counts of burglary to public schools within the Moorpark Unified School district. Detectives initially began their investigation in October of 2019 in response to several burglaries and attempted burglaries that had occurred at various schools within the city.
On the morning of April 7th, patrol deputies from the Moorpark Station responded to the Flory Academy of Sciences and Technology for a report of a burglary. Deputies learned that when employees arrived at the school that morning, they discovered several classrooms had been broken into and an assortment of property had been taken.
Detectives from the Moorpark Station responded to the scene and determined that the break-in occurred sometime during the previous evening. Detectives additionally collected several pieces of evidence that were left at the scene and identified Christopher Lewis, a previous employee, as a possible suspect.
Later that afternoon, detectives contacted Lewis near his residence in Simi Valley and discovered additional evidence linking him to the burglary. Detectives continued their investigation and additional evidence from the burglary was recovered from Lewis’ home. At the conclusion of their investigation, detectives arrested Lewis on two counts of burglary per PC 459, one count of attempted burglary per PC 664/459 and a single count of felony vandalism per PC 594(b)(1).
Lewis was booked at the Ventura County Jail and released with a future court date.
