Santa Paula: Ventura County Fire Protection District Quarterly Report

    By Sheryl Hamlin

Item Number 10 in the Consent Calendar was the Ventura County Fire Protection District Quarterly Report. Council Member Crosswhite asked for the item to be pulled because she had questions.

Chief Monday approached the dais to answer the questions.

Council Member Crosswhite indicated that the report included incident stats but did not include times. Chief Monday said the response times were 8 minutes 30 seconds generally with dispatch time of one minute.

Mayor Garman asked about paramedics. Chief Monday said there are two teams with six members for station 26. 78% of the calls are medical (EMS) so having the two teams is a huge benefit.

Chief Monday said they are planning to “refurbish” station 29. He will be back in a few weeks. They plan to make it look like “old town”.

Council Member Sobel reminded that the entire presentation can be found in the packet.

    Misuse of Consent Calendar

Calendaring the Fire Department Quarterly Report in the Consent Calendar defies explanation in light of the recent annexation and massive fires, both of which have permanently affected the city and county. This report should be a regularly scheduled item in presentations.
