Simi Valley Police Detectives Investigating a Homicide

Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release

    Euren Balbuena

On Thursday, February 27, 2020, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Simi Valley Police Officers responded to a Welfare Check in the area of East Los Angeles Avenue and Emory Avenue. Simi Valley Police Dispatch advised the responding officers that a female subject flagged down some citizens in the area. The female subject (reporting party) told the citizens that her daughter was stabbed by her boyfriend and was still inside the apartment.

When the officers arrived, Ventura County Fire Department personnel were treating the reporting party for facial lacerations. The officers ascertained where the reporting party’s daughter resided and responded to the residence. The officers entered the residence and discovered a 31-year-old female Simi Valley resident deceased in the kitchen of the apartment. The female victim had multiple stab wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The officers also located the deceased victim’s cohabitant boyfriend, 29-year-old Euren Balbuena, inside the residence and he was arrested without incident. During the preliminary investigation, officers determined that Balbuena also assaulted the reporting party during the incident. The reporting party was transported to a local emergency room for medical treatment. She is a 51-year-old San Fernando Valley resident and is reported to be in stable condition. The reporting party is classified as a victim in this case.

As the investigation continued, Simi Valley Police Department Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Balbuena was transported to the Simi Valley Police Station for further investigation. The details surrounding this incident are still under investigation, but it appears that a domestic dispute occurred inside the apartment.

Balbuena was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail this evening for the following charges:

    • 187(a) PC – First Degree Murder (1-count)
    • 664/187(a) PC – Attempted Murder (1-count)

We would like to remind the public that this case is still under investigation and some details cannot be released to the public due to legal and investigative reasons. There are no outstanding suspects or additional victims in this case. Any witnesses or community members who have information related to this case are asked to call the Simi Valley Police Department Tip-Line at: (805) 583-6984.
