Port Hueneme Police Department – Incident Press Release
On Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at approximately 10:11 AM, a concerned citizen reported that there was an unattended package sitting on a greenbelt area in front of Port Hueneme Civic Center, a complex that houses City Hall, the Police Department and Housing Authority. Responding officers noted that the package was a cardboard box with what appeared to be a handwritten note affixed to the top.
After reviewing surveillance video, investigators determined that an unknown individual placed the package under a sign, located a short distance from the main entrance on Wednesday, September 4th at approximately 1:26 AM. That person is described as wearing dark clothing, carrying a backpack and possibly riding roller blades or skates. Investigators were unable to determine the race or the gender of the subject from the video.
Due to the suspicious nature of the incident, City Hall was evacuated and nearby Hueneme Elementary School was placed on lockdown. Ventura Road between Pearl Street and Scott Street was also closed.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad responded and determined that the package was not a bomb. Once it was safe to do so, the package was opened and found to contain a potted plant. No additional packages were located.
Detectives are requesting anyone who might have information to contact Detective Sergeant Frank Torpey at (805) 986-6615.
Perhaps it was the former Deputy CM returning the money from the recent settlement.
