Ventura Man under the influence sets fire to curtains

Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release

On December 14th at 8:41 AM officers responded to a residence in the 3400 block of Rexford St., to assist Ventura City Fire personnel who were on scene of a structure fire and requesting an emergency police response. After fire personnel arrived on scene, it was determined the resident of the apartment, later identified as Alex Drown, DOB: 09/30/85, Ventura Resident , was under the influence of a controlled substance, and set fire to his curtains and to a wall inside his apartment. Drown became upset and started throwing glass bottles at the manager of the apartment complex. He had also briefly armed himself with a knife and was making threats.

Once officers arrived on scene, they had to negotiate with Drown to exit the apartment. While speaking with him, Drown could be heard breaking items inside. He eventually came out of the apartment on his own and was taken into custody without incident.

Drown was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, and when the fire department’s arson investigator determined the fire was set intentionally, he was arrested for the additional charge of arson.

No one was hurt as a result of this incident.

A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Drown has two open criminal cases from 2019 for charges of burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.
