Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release
On March 5th at 8:12 PM the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call reporting a possible strong armed robbery of a purse that just occurred in the parking lot of Vons in the 6000 block of Telegraph Rd. The suspects were last seen leaving the area in a BMW sedan.
During the investigation, officers learned the victim got into her vehicle and found two subjects, one later identified as Alfredo Magana sitting in the backseat. It appeared Magana and the other subject mistook the vehicle as their friend’s. When confronted by the victim, Magana grabbed the victim’s purse and got into the suspect vehicle. The victim tried to retain her purse, but Magana forcibly took it from the victim. The vehicle left the shopping center onto Telegraph Rd.
Approximately 30 minutes later, an officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of Saticoy Ave. and Darling Rd., and a high risk stop was conducted. Magana was positively identified as the suspect and arrest for robbery. The victim’s property was found inside the vehicle.
The victim was not injured as a result of this incident.
There were other occupants contacted in the suspect vehicle that were determined not to have committed a crime and released from the scene.
